Madurai also known as Alavaai Kadambavanam, Koodal, Naan Maadaa Koodal, Kanni Poorisam, Shivaraja Thani, Siva Nagarum, Samasti Vichapuram, Sivan Muthram, Siva Logam & Duvatha Santhapuram. Seeking deliverance from the curse he planted a lotus in the Siva Ganga River, more popularly known as River Ganges which is Considered to be the holiest of rivers in the Hindus religion. This Done he then proceeds to the tank inside the meenakshiamman temple and Prayed successfully for relief from the curse. Since then the tank is known As "Por-thamarai kulam" (Lake of the Golden Lotus). An interesting fact about the Por-thamarai kulam is that even though The tank has been in existence for centuries, there is not even a single Fish in it. It is here in the city of Madurai that the Lord Soma Sundarar had Played 64 historical characters in his life which is known as Thiruvilayadal. The Meenakshi Amman at Madurai is the only place on earth where the Statue of Lord Meenakshi is made out of Emerald Stone.
